Dauphin Island and Lighthouse Bakery

Dauphin Island is as nice as we remembered it. We are on a pointe on the west side of Mobile Bay. The weather has been sunny and delightful. I caught up on laundry, (so nothing will distract me from the festivities in New Orleans) and Bill did some chasing around making plans for a new trailer hitch tomorrow. We plan to be at the RV place by 9:00am and Johnny said it should only take about an hour. (I'm sure!!!).
I plan to go with Bill because I do not want to spend my morning sitting at the picnic table looking pathetic with the two dogs. I really think they will be more comfortable in the trailer while it gets worked on, than tied to the same picnic table I am trying to look comfortable at. Anyway there is a Walmart close.
I thought this would be an opportune time to do some shopping and get one of their special haircuts. The last time when we were in San Antonio I needed one. The Walmart had a salon in it and no appointments were necessary, so in I trotted. How hard is a trim? Well this little cute Hispanic girl took me back and began to snip away. Seriously she was like Edward Scissor hands. After I learned about the drug cartel in  her hometown in Mexico, her family and how she hasn't finished school, I walked out with a short and wispy hair cut. All Bill said was "Whoa, that's short".
I am getting really bouffant with the humidity and I want to look my best for the Superbowl crowd and the Mardi Gras which also kicks off this week in New Orleans. I am not sure about our timing there but it should be fun. Maybe I will get some of those Moon Pies and beaded necklaces.
The first parade kicks off in Mobile and the ferry across the bay from the campground runs every 45 minutes. Some people from the campground I am sure are going. They even had a parade and decorated their sites like Addison Oaks at Halloween. People love to party.
We took a bike ride today into town, visited the bakery, and then had a beer at the Pelican Bar and Grill. The special was in honor of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet laureate, scotch for $2.00. The view of the bay was pristine and a pelican sat on a pole and preformed personal hygiene for his audience.
We have one more day here before we move on to Bayou Segnette State Park in New Orleans.

  2. Hi,

I am sorry to hear about your hitch problem. Hopefully it will be a minor fix and not cause to much disruption in your plans. Fortunately you were planning on being there a few days in case a part needs to be ordered.
I guess the Perzanowskis got off on Thursday and the roads were not to bad after they got past Cadillac.
So your hair is pretty short? I am going to wait a week of so and then get my usual number 2 cut. That way it will grow out a little so I don't have to worry about getting a sun burn on the top of my head.
At least the pelican did not bite you like the unfriendly one we encountered way back when. I guess they will celebrate anything down there, even a Scottish poet. Don't we have any American poets to celebrate or even the pelican. After all it was the pelican bar.
Mardi Gras already? I thought Mardi Gras was the week before the beginning of Lent. You would think they would want to get the Super Bowl festivities over with first and stretch the celebrations out longer. Then people won't get confused as to what they are getting hangovers for.
We went to that Fire and Ice thing last night. It was actually pretty comfortable in the beer tent. But very cold outside. I was told the fire works were pretty nice. I stayed inside with Bruce and Mike P. They look the same whether it is warm or cold outside. We then went to some bar with Patty and Mark and had a couple of beers and Nachos. I was home at about 11:00 PM. A reasonable hour I thought.
It is supposed to start raining here later today and start to freeze around midnight and then start to warm up and just rain for the next day or to. Temps may reach 50 before it gets cold again next weekend.
Peg seems to be getting excited for that fan fair. They have a room at a Comfort Inn. She is concerned that the place might be a dump. I told her she had good reason to be worried because I have stayed in a lot of them and that most were. Later on I told her that I was just kidding and that they were actually quite nice.
I guess that is all for today. Time to feed the cat and me too.

    Safe Travels

    God Bless America

    1. Man, Uncle Norm is so whitty! There is no way I can top that. So, my big question is...How did the beer taste? Am I correct it was a scottish ale?

I, too, and getting psyched for Nashville. I have already been online boot shopping and currently have 8 pairs in my cart on zappos.com. I'm going to allow myself to keep two pairs, but zappos has free shipping and returns so Im going to buy them all and decide on which ones I want to keep after I can see/try them on.

Im not quite sure what I am going to do anout the coyboy hat...I think Im going to end up buying one at a store in Nashville, unless I can find a really cute one here...but I dont even know where to start looking. What type of stores sell coyboy hats??? Tractor supply? Hmmm

      Drive Safely

      love Patty
