Carlsbad Cavern Pictures

Well, after speaking to Caitrin this afternoon, I decided to post a few pictures from the caverns. The Caverns are so large and  I hope these pictures give a little sampling of the wonders of nature. The last few pictures are from the Living Desert State Park in the city of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

This is a look into one of the main caves. Just huge!

Bill is enjoying lunch after our walk  to the Big Room 750 feet down into the Cavern
This formation is called Popcorn because it looks like the kernels after they pop
This path is the walkway down into the Natural Entrance into the main cave
The Entrance to the Park
Once we got into the cave we looked back and this what we saw. There are hundreds of cave swallows that fly around the opening and in March, hundreds of thousands of Mexican Cave Bats return to the caves and take up residence. In the evenings they leave to dine on New Mexico's finest mosquitos and bugs then, return to roost in the morning. One little  bat can eat 1200 mosquitos in one hour.

This is another view of popcorn

The Whale

Look at this!

This is like fine fins

These little guys were free range cattle, meaning they could wander as they liked. They decided to cross the road as we were driving down the road.  We waited as they passed.

Interesting shape on this cactus.

This little guy was on the verge of extinction until he found his home at the  Living Zoo.

These guys are Javelina or Collared Peccary. So cute
