Boquillas Canyon

By the way, Blueberry Jelly Bellies were created for Ronald Reagan.
But you probably knew that.

Boquillas Canyon. It follows the flat wall and goes behind the jutting rock.   Make sense?

We parked the car in the lot and took a hike. Plenty warm today but was great. All the paths are marked and steps are formed from tree logs and a mixture of gravel and dirt. Still pretty nice. Because of the elevation in some areas the paths are winding. They try to trick you so you don't realize you are going up.
The Rio Grande River has carved out this canyon. The United States is on the one side and Mexico on the other.

This fellow was on the other side fishing. I guess there are some pretty nice cat fish in the water.

The border crossing is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays...

So the locals will pick you up and take you across by canoe.

Then take you either by horse or Burro to the town. We didn't go here but there was plenty of people who did. Maybe next time.

The town was very colorful!

Along the path we encountered a singing Mexican Hombre. He has been coming here for sixteen years and for one dollar he will sing into the canyon. The echo is quite pleasant. He also asked for a granola bar. We even had one. Also during the night locals slip across the river and leave trinkets and a jar for money to sell their art.

Some of it is really good.Glass beads.

Painted rocks

This little guy, waiting for a ride?

These round holes in the rocks were used by previous cultures to cook down some plants until they became edible.

Managed to get a photo of the two of us.
I found this picture of the steps we would find on many of the trails in the entire park. Not all this nice  but certainly made going up and down more enjoyable.
We were in the canyon  looking out. Hard to believe the river could carve away the rock and create such a beautiful sight.
We headed back to camp and took the pups out. They were pretty comfortable out of the sun and enjoying the air conditioning. The late afternoons get cooler and we open up the windows and enjoy the mountain air. One more day here. Tomorrow we will drive to Santa Eleana Canyon. It is supposed to be another beautiful day.
