You Never Know!

The next morning we got up and took Toby for a walk. We found this cool park across from Lake Corpus Christie State Park in Mathis, Texas. It was called Wilderness Lake R.V. Resort. Many of the residents there were from other states and had come to Texas to enjoy the weather and good friends. There were activities, ice cream sundae afternoons, a pool (too cold to swim) and a beautiful lake.

There were even orange trees in the park

We learned how to play card bingo, and bunko. I can’t wait to get home and play them with the kids.
Guess who was a winner at Bingo?
We headed out to Corpus Christie for the day. It was a bit foggy as we prepared to enter the city.
It just hovered over the road

Check out the evaporating fog over the bridge.
It clearing as we passed the U.S.S. Lexington floating Air Craft Carrier Museum came into view.
Look at the planes and the helicopters on board. We took the tour last time we were here so we just looked at it from the road this time
We had a nice time following the waterfront and headed back to the campground because I had a mystery trip planned for Bill.  I heard a couple of fellas talking about this place while I was doing laundry. One of these days I will figure out how the ladies get the guys to do the wash. To be pondered.
The place was only about five miles from where we camped . Ready?

A local treat.

Their guard dog, Molly.
Yummy ideas. Can’t wait to share.
Getting some tips about Vodka

Nothing fancy

They have local entertainment on Saturdays. No one under 21 ever.
He produces about 800 fifths a month, and distributes close by.

We were there by ourselves because I misread the hours. They were closed but they let us in and we had our own private tasting.
Three flavors Vodka. Original, Texas Torch (Cinnamon) and the newest flavor, Mesquite.
It was a very good day!
We really enjoyed Wilderness Lake R.V. Park and Bill said it was really the first park he thought he might come back to and stay for a month or so. It is small, but nicely located to many larger cities if he needed a Home Depot fix. Corpus Christie has lots to offer and we could use it as home base to see other spots and the Gulf Sand in Texas.
“Everybody should believe in something, I believe I will have another drink.”

The weather has gotten a little chilly again. We are moving farther south toward  the South Padre Islands. More sand and sun. One can only hope!

Hope all is well with all of you.
God Bless America.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Sometime around the year 2011 we took our first winter adventure. We had our beautiful V-Front KeystoneCougar.

We are at Goose Island State Park
Rockport, Texas.

Our Little Hitch hiker
“The view is always better on the picnic table” said Belle
All the campsites are nestled in these trees. The branches are everywhere and made parking a challenge.
The branches were up then down. They were beautiful.

This is the Goose Island Oak. It is over 1000 years old.

This year we returned to the area.

We had a new trailer and truck and toured the same area after Hurricane Harvey took an inland path directly at Rockport and Fulton. It was a Category 4 storm that hit August 25,2017. As of September 5, 2017, Hurricane Harvey damaged 203,000 homes, of which 12,700 were destroyed.

This boat is still by the side of the road.
It will be awhile before this store will be up and running.

Not much left here. We thought this was a boat storage building from all debris piled nearby.

This is the dock in the State Park at Goose Island. The rails were down and the campground closed. Many volunteers are working there to try to get it open again before the summer season begins.
The Pelicans are back and watching.
Beautiful

The Island Live Oak Survived.
As we worked our way back to Corpus Christie that day, we went to Mustang Island. I don’t have any pictures from the last trip. But I am sure you can see how devastated the area was from the storm. Many of the businesses aren’t going to reopen for awhile or ever for that matter. The State Park on the Island  is not open and it was not clear if it would make the summer season.
Corner Store

Beachside Souvenirs
There were mounds and mounds of debris piled everywhere. Some areas didn’t look too bad after the debris was hauled away. But only shells were left of houses.
Tons of roofs were tarped

Driving back, the sun was setting and gave hope that tomorrow would be a better day.

God Bless America.

The Strand

The waterfront of the city of Galveston is separate from the  Galveston Island waterfront. It is a historic area of town filled with old buildings, a train station, a central cruise ship terminal, and a Tall Ship. The city streets were decked out for the last weekend of Marci Gras.

Part of the waterfront harbor on the Strand.
The Strand is actually a developed shopping area for tourists with restaurants, boutiques, a few lofts  and a historic opera house. It is about eight square blocks. Lots to see and eat and even a few Irish Pubs.

The Tall Ship Elyssa is in the harbor. Galveston will be hosting the
Tall Ships this summer as they pass through to New Orleans.

This crazy guy was in the freezing water right next to the Elyssa. Honestly it was sleeting and he was in the water fishing in that tube. At least he had a hat on. They say you lose 25% of you body heat through your head.
He was guarding his spot in the parking lot.

As we left Galveston we wished it would have been sunny and warmer, bawaa, bawaa, but we had a great time. As usual the company was fabulous and I enjoy every minute with Mister Bill.
In the morning we will leave for Corpus Christie. We are still chasing the sun, those warm days and spectacular sunsets.

Colorful beach houses

Some on stilts
Many are rentals for families like ours, right on the beach dunes.

Craftsman Homes?

I thought this one was cool. It was like a bobber if there was a flood. You think?
