A Trip Down Memory Lane

Sometime around the year 2011 we took our first winter adventure. We had our beautiful V-Front KeystoneCougar.

We are at Goose Island State Park
Rockport, Texas.

“The view is always better on the picnic table” said Belle
All the campsites are nestled in these trees. The branches are everywhere and made parking a challenge.
The branches were up then down. They were beautiful.

This is the Goose Island Oak. It is over 1000 years old.

This year we returned to the area.

We had a new trailer and truck and toured the same area after Hurricane Harvey took an inland path directly at Rockport and Fulton. It was a Category 4 storm that hit August 25,2017. As of September 5, 2017, Hurricane Harvey damaged 203,000 homes, of which 12,700 were destroyed.

This boat is still by the side of the road.
It will be awhile before this store will be up and running.

Not much left here. We thought this was a boat storage building from all debris piled nearby.

This is the dock in the State Park at Goose Island. The rails were down and the campground closed. Many volunteers are working there to try to get it open again before the summer season begins.
The Pelicans are back and watching.
Beautiful

The Island Live Oak Survived.
As we worked our way back to Corpus Christie that day, we went to Mustang Island. I don’t have any pictures from the last trip. But I am sure you can see how devastated the area was from the storm. Many of the businesses aren’t going to reopen for awhile or ever for that matter. The State Park on the Island  is not open and it was not clear if it would make the summer season.

Beachside Souvenirs
There were mounds and mounds of debris piled everywhere. Some areas didn’t look too bad after the debris was hauled away. But only shells were left of houses.
Tons of roofs were tarped

Driving back, the sun was setting and gave hope that tomorrow would be a better day.

God Bless America.
